Tongue cancer.
Cancer is in itself a very traumatising disease. And cancer of the tongue is even difficult to digest, because it practically handicaps you if not taken care of immediately, difficulty in talking, eating, swallowing are just some of the problems. There is no definite cause of tongue cancer, mostly associated with men above the age of forty years, and more so in people having a habit of tobacco chewing and even smoking and alcohol, also in people who have poor oral hygiene, inflammation in the mucous membrane of the mouth and mouth ulcers. Some people even quote a genetic predilection for tongue cancer.A regular check up by your doctor on observing an usual ulcer or inflammation, which does not heal, makes a hell of a difference. The mode of treatment depends on the stage of the cancer. Those which have metastasized elsewhere, show a poor prognosis and are usually not treated surgically. They can be treated by palliative care, radiaiton and chemotherapy. Early stages can be treated surgically and show good prognosis and signs of complete relief.
